Pearls on the Iberian Peninsula
The Iberian Peninsula made up of Spain and Portugal has many beautiful cities, each with their own charm and history. But if I had to choose one, I would recommend Seville as the most beautiful city on the peninsula.
Seville in Andalusia
Seville is the capital of the Andalusia cities region of Spain and has a rich history dating back to Roman times. It was also an important city during Moorish rule in Spain and has a mix of Moorish and Christian architecture and culture. The historic center of Seville is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rich history and architectural beauty. One of the most famous landmarks in Seville is Seville Cathedral, which is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and contains the burial place of Christopher Columbus. Next to the cathedral is the famous Giralda Tower, which was once a minaret used to give the call to prayer during Moorish rule. It is now a clock tower and offers a beautiful view of the city.
Another must-see attraction in Seville is the Royal Palace of Seville, also known as the Alcázar of Seville. This is one of the best examples of Moorish architecture in Spain and Andalusia and has beautiful gardens and courtyards. The palace was originally built in the 10th century as a fortress and has been expanded and changed over the years. Seville is also known for its flamenco dancing and music. There are many places in the city where you can enjoy flamenco performances and experience the passionate dance and music that is so characteristic of Andalusian culture. Another aspect that makes Seville special is the river Guadalquivir that flows through the city. Along the river you will find many beautiful squares and bridges, such as the Triana Bridge, which offers great views of the city. The river is also an important transportation route and you can take a boat trip to see the city from a different perspective.
What to do in Porto in Portugal?
Porto is a beautiful city in the north of Portugal, located on the banks of the Douro River. What to do in Porto in Portugal? The historic center of Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has many charming squares, streets and buildings from different eras, such as the Romanesque Cathedral, the Gothic Church of São Francisco and the neoclassical Bolsa Palace. One of the main attractions of Porto is the famous port cellars, where the famous port wine is produced and stored. A visit to the cellars is a great experience, where you can learn about the history of Port wine and of course taste the wines. The city also has many beautiful viewpoints, such as the Clerigos Tower and the Dom Luis I Bridge, which offer spectacular views of the city and the Douro River. The atmosphere in Porto is warm and welcoming, with many cozy cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy delicious food and wine.
Madrid and Salamanca in Spain
Madrid is the capital of Spain and has a lot to offer in terms of culture and art, such as the Prado Museum and the Royal Palace of Madrid. But compared to Seville, Madrid lacks the historic character and charm of Seville. Salamanca is a beautiful city in the Castilla y León region, known for its historic university dating back to the 13th century. Salamanca is also a beautiful city, best known for its historic university and the Plaza Mayor, a beautiful square from the 18th century. The city has many historic buildings, including the Cathedral of Salamanca and the Casa de las Conchas, a Gothic building decorated with shells.
